Staff Correspondent: A bicycle rally was held in Satkhira to create awareness about environmental protection.
This rally was organized in Satkhira town by non-governmental organization BARCIK and the Education, Culture and Diversity Protection Team On Tuesday (4 June) morning in view of World Environment Day 2024.
The rally started from Satkhira Sadar Upazila Parishad premises and ended at Shahid Abdur Razzak Park through the intersection of Old Satkhira, Satkhira Government College, Post Office, Sadar Hospital, New Market and Tufan Company.
During the rally, the youth hanging placards on their chests with the slogan ‘Plant trees, save the environment’, ‘Floods, droughts and floods, cutting down trees is a disaster’, ‘Let’s plant trees, prevent drought, warming and desertification’, ‘Plant trees, cool the hot air’, ‘One Earth, One chance’, ‘Save soil health, stop deforestation’, ‘Save reservoirs, stop water pollution’, ‘The key to survival, don’t make a mistake in planting trees’, ‘We want a city of flowers, birds, trees and ponds’, ‘We can build a green world’ etc.,
Earlier in the morning, Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Shoaib Ahmad inaugurated the rally as the chief guest. While Upazila Agriculture Officer Monir Hossain, Upazila Social Service Officer Sheikh Sahidur Rahman, Associate Program Officer of BARCIK Gazi Mahida Mizan, member of Education, Culture and Diversity Protection Team Mushfiqur Rahim and Tamanna Parveen were spoke among others.
The speakers said that as citizens, each of us has the responsibility to protect the environment. But we forget our responsibility and put the responsibility on others. Environmental pollution through deforestation is one of the main causes of the current heat wave. So we need to plant more trees to maintain the balance of the environment. Along with that, everyone should try to create a pollution free environment. There is no substitute for awareness.
